A GUTI (Globally Unique Temporary Identifier) is a temporary identifier assigned by a cellular network to a mobile device to help protect subscriber privacy. Instead of continuously transmitting a permanent identifier such as the IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity), modern LTE and 5G networks use a GUTI to identify and manage a device while it is connected to the network. GUTIs change periodically as devices move between network areas, reconnect to the network, or during privacy-related network procedures.
